Teak edged board 32/52 mm, extra, 8-10%

Teak · Edged · 32/52 mm · Extra

Prime (extra) grade edged teak timber is used for the manufacturing of premium furniture, yacht and decking structures, flooring, and other interior and exterior solutions where durability is essential. The extra grade is characterized by a uniform texture and stable colour, which reduces material waste and speeds up the processing of blanks. Kiln-dried (KD) boards with a moisture content (MC) of 8–10% are available for self-collection and shipping across Ukraine. Retail and wholesale sales.

Characteristics of Extra Grade Edged Teak Board

Board grade is a classification of timber based on the natural features of the wood: the number and type of knots, presence of cracks or sapwood, and uniformity of texture and colour.

Grade primarily determines the aesthetic qualities of the material rather than basic physical-mechanical properties. Provided the species is the same and moisture content is correct, the grade has almost no effect on the strength of the board.

Features of Extra (Premium) Grade Boards:

  • Elite timber with a clean surface: uniform texture and consistent colouring.
  • Knots, sapwood, cracks, or sharp colour transitions are not permitted.
  • This is material for furniture facades, wall panelling, and other interior items where visual perfection is required.

Characteristics of 1st Grade Edged Teak Board

When determining the lumber grade, the natural characteristics of the wood are evaluated: knots and their classifications, the potential presence of checks, shakes, or sapwood, as well as the uniformity of color and grain texture. This grading system primarily characterizes the visual and decorative qualities of the sawn timber. The grade has a negligible impact on the physical and mechanical properties of the wood, provided that the boards are manufactured from the same species and feature the proper moisture content (MC).

Features of 1st Grade Boards:

  • The “Gold Standard” for joinery work: the surface is practically feature-free, but the price is more accessible.
  • Single live (light) knots of small diameter and minor natural shade variations are permitted.
  • An optimal choice for worktops, staircases, parquet, and cabinet furniture where the natural pattern of the wood is valued.

Advantages of Edged Teak Board

  1. Saving Working Time & Quick Start. Edged board allows you to skip the most labour-intensive and “messy” stage of initial preparation. You do not need to spend time removing bark or levelling edges on a band saw.

The material is immediately ready for precise cutting, planing, and gluing. This shortens the production cycle by 20-30%, allowing the workshop to release more products per unit of time.

  1. Maximum Useful Yield Coefficient. When buying unedged timber, you pay for the total volume, a portion of which (bark, sapwood, edge defects) will go to waste.

With the edged teak board format, you only pay for the working material. You receive a predicted result: 90-95% of the purchased volume becomes a finished product.

  1. Preservation of Tool Life. The bark of any tree often accumulates dust and sand, which act as an abrasive. Processing unedged edges blunts planer knives and circular saws significantly faster.

By working with clean edged boards, you extend the service life of cutting tool sharpening and save on machine maintenance.

  1. Accuracy of Calculations. You can precisely calculate the cost price of the future product (steps, facades, worktops) even before work begins, without the risk of miscalculating the waste percentage.
  1. Convenient Storage. Edged material has clear width parameters, which simplifies warehouse stocktaking. Boards with processed edges take up 1.5 times less space in the warehouse than unedged timber.

Edged Teak Board: Dimensions

WoodWay Expert offers high-quality edged boards made from selected and properly dried timber. The lumber is stored in appropriate conditions.

We have solid boards in the following dimensions available at our warehouse:

  • Thickness: 32 mm, 52 mm;
  • Width: From 20 cm;
  • Length: 1–4.5 m.

Boards longer than 3 metres incur a +20% surcharge on the price listed in the price list. Our specialists will help you select quality material for your project of any complexity and scale. An additional rough cutting service is available for more convenient transport.

Features of Kiln Dried Teak Boards

  • Dimensional Stability. During kiln drying, the wood moisture content is brought to an average of 8–10% — an indicator optimal for interior use. Controlled temperature and humidity regimes significantly reduce internal stresses in the solid wood.

Consequently, the board behaves predictably during cutting and further processing: the risk of warping, distortion, or the formation of shrinkage cracks is significantly lower. Products made from kiln-dried timber retain their shape better over a long period under stable operating conditions.

  • Biological Purity of the Material. The temperature regimes of kiln drying suppress the development of mould and fungi, and destroy the majority of insect pest larvae, including woodworm.

As a result, the timber enters production in a biologically safe state, which is particularly important for furniture and joinery manufacturing.

  • Quality of Mechanical and Finish Processing. Dry timber has a stable structure, which directly affects the processing result. During milling and sawing, the tool works cleaner, and the edge comes out smooth without excessive fuzz or chipping.

Sanding proceeds evenly, fibres do not “raise”, and stains, oils, and varnishes penetrate the pores better and deeper, ensuring reliable adhesion and a stable finish.

Areas of Application for Edged Teak Board

Teak Worktops

Joinery board is a suitable material for manufacturing wear-resistant worktops for desks, coffee tables, and side tables.

Solid board is also used for the production of tops for bar and reception counters, shop counters, kitchen islands, and working surfaces.

Teak Furniture Fronts

Substantial wardrobes, chests of drawers, sideboards, shelving units, and floor-standing or suspended cabinets made from furniture board last for decades.

Such items are used to furnish residential and public premises, including offices. Furniture fronts made from hardwood withstand increased operational loads, which is important for spaces with high footfall.

Teak Flooring

Dry solid board is used for the production of various floor coverings.

Thus, the timber can be used for the top layer of parquet and engineered boards. Natural timber is also used to manufacture tongue-and-groove floorboards laid indoors.

Internal Teak Staircases

The high density of hardwoods guarantees the structural strength of stair flights. Properly treated timber resists abrasive wear and friction in zones of the most intense traffic.

The solid wood is subject to repeated scraping and refinishing, which extends the service life of wooden stairs.

Decorative Elements from Teak Wood

The unique texture and inimitable pattern of growth rings make every item, whether a massive wall panel or a miniature key holder, an exclusive design object.

The ability of the wood to easily undergo various types of finishing (toning, varnishing, brushing) allows decor to be integrated into any style: from Scandinavian minimalism to rustic.

Teak Timber: Characteristics

Teak (Tectona grandis) is one of the most valuable and expensive species on the joinery market. Among trade names, you may encounter variants such as Burmese teak, Rhodesian teak, or Brazilian teak.

The name “Burmese teak” is used for trees grown in their natural environment — in Myanmar (Burma). Other variants are used to designate varieties grown artificially, or trees that are only visually similar to the solid wood but belong to different botanical families.

Key Properties:

  • Density: Approximately 640-690 kg/m³. This hard species possesses significant mechanical strength, making it suitable for structural and decorative tasks.
  • Colour: Ranges from golden-brown to dark brown. Over time, this exotic timber may darken.
  • Texture: Straight or slightly wavy fibres. The wood is dense with a uniform texture and a delicate oily sheen.

Teak is resistant to moisture, fungi, mould, insects, and ultraviolet light. The timber is used for both internal and external works. Teak products retain functionality and aesthetics for decades.

Teak timber cuts, planes, and sands well. Gluing is recommended after preliminary surface cleaning, as the material contains a significant amount of oils. The solid wood can be polished, toned, and varnished.

Teak timber is used in the production of ship and yacht decks, garden furniture, windows, doors, external and internal floor coverings, stairs, finishing materials, light fixtures, and decor.
