Pear sawn veneer (lamellas) 4.5 mm is a sawn timber product with uniform density and an expressive figure. The increased material thickness allows for precision milling, decorative carving, and repeated restorative sanding (refinishing). Pear sawn lamellas are suitable for solid worktops, engineered parquet flooring, craft components, and doors. Sawn timber dispatch starts from 1 pack. We work with joinery workshops and furniture manufacturers. Remote selection is available by figure, grain, and dimensions. Delivery across Ukraine via freight carriers, alongside warehouse pickup in Kyiv.

Key Features of Pear Sawn Veneer (Lamella)

  1. Structural integrity. Due to the sawing technology, the timber maintains a stable structure and fibre integrity, ensuring high surface quality.
  2. Natural colour palette. The production process for lamellas does not require preliminary steaming. This preserves the natural wood shades without unwanted yellow or red tints, which is critical for design projects.
  3. Durability and restoration. With thicknesses ranging from 2 mm to 10 mm, lamella products can be sanded and refinished multiple times (similar to solid wood boards). This makes the material ideal for high-traffic flooring, stairs, and furniture.
  4. Stability. Sawn veneer demonstrates high resistance to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. The risk of deformation in products veneered with these sheets is minimal.
  5. Workability. The smooth and clean surface after sawing ensures excellent adhesion with all types of adhesives (PVA, PU, resins). Veneer sheets are easy to cut, sand, stain, and varnish.

Custom Pear Sawn Lamella

We stock Acacia sawn veneer in thicknesses of 2.5 mm and 4.5 mm, lengths of 2–3.2 m, and widths of 10–21 cm.

Made-to-order options:

  • Thickness: Non-standard sizes from 2 mm to 10 mm.
  • Dimensions: Custom widths and lengths available upon request.
  • Minimum order quantity (MOQ): From 10 m² per species.
  • Lead time: 10 working days.

TIP. Always order sawn lamellas with a 10–15% surface area allowance. Extra material is essential for grain matching and figure alignment, as well as for end trimming and cross-cutting.

Pear Sawn Veneer Grades

For facing materials, the grade indicates aesthetic characteristics rather than technical quality. Since lamella is used as a face layer, its classification is based on visual parameters: the presence of knots, sapwood, medullary rays, and colour uniformity.

All grades in our range undergo the same kiln-drying cycle to a moisture content (MC) of 8–10% and precision thickness sanding. The choice of grade depends solely on the intended style of the finished product.

Grade Characteristics
A (Select / Prime)

The highest level of timber selection, prioritising clarity and uniformity.

  • Features uniform colour across the entire surface, with no sapwood, mechanical damage, or large knots.
  • Only occasional «pin» knots (up to 2–3 mm) are permitted.
  • Ideal for premium furniture in classic or minimalist styles, worktops, and cabinet fronts with perfect texture.
B (Natural)

This material showcases the wood’s texture, balancing clarity with authenticity.

  • Healthy intergrown knots of medium size, slight colour variations, and a small amount of sapwood are permitted.
  • Suitable for Scandinavian-style products, engineered parquet boards, and interior panels.
C (Rustic / Country)

Highly expressive texture that emphasises the material’s natural origin.

  • Includes large knots (including «dead» knots), cracks, pronounced sapwood, and contrasting heartwood.
  • The optimal choice for Loft, Rustic, and Country styles.

Where is Pear Sawn Veneer Used?

Parquet board — Sawn Pear Veneer

Interior Decor

Timber lamellas are used to manufacture various decorative products. The material is easy to cut, glue, paint, varnish, and stain. Sawn lamella is used to create toys, puzzles, coasters, napkin holders, boxes, phone holders, decorative panels, stationery organisers, cosmetic stands, wall clocks, and more.

Pear Sawn Lamella Production Technology

  • Raw material selection. The production process begins with the rigorous selection of premium and prime-grade boards. This stage defines the quality of the future product, as timber characteristics directly affect the aesthetics and performance of the lamella.
  • Kiln drying. Selected raw materials undergo drying in specialised kilns. This technology allows for the achievement of an optimal joinery moisture content (MC) level (8–10%), which is essential for material stability. Correct drying reduces internal stresses and prevents deformation or cracking.
  • Calibration. Before sawing, the boards are calibrated to dimensions that match the parameters of the saw frame. This approach ensures high precision in subsequent processing and optimal material yield.
  • Sawing. Prepared blanks are fed into a Wintersteiger machine. After setting the thickness and other parameters, the timber is resawn into sheets. The use of high-precision equipment guarantees consistent saw-cut quality.
  • Quality control (QC) and grading. The finished sawn veneer is inspected for compliance with dimensions, thickness, and grade. After grading, the lamellas are grouped into bundles, which are then packed onto pallets for transport.

Pear Timber: Key Parameters

Pear (Pyrus communis) is regarded as one of the most exclusive and valuable fruitwood species. Its exceptionally dense, uniform cellular structure is the primary reason why this timber is highly favored for the manufacture of high-end furniture, cabinetry, and musical instruments. Common Pear is widely distributed across temperate latitudes, with primary commercial reserves concentrated in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Western Asia. In Ukraine, while the species is found throughout the territory, timber harvested from forest-grown stands holds the greatest industrial significance, as these trees reach optimal heights and trunk diameters (typically 30–50 cm).

Pear is classified as a heavy, hard, and resilient hardwood with high compressive strength. Its air-dry density (at 12% moisture content) ranges from 690 to 740 kg/m³, with a Brinell hardness rating of 3.0–3.3. The wood is highly resistant to splitting and exhibits excellent elasticity after a professional steaming process, allowing for the creation of complex curved elements.

Freshly sawn timber typically displays a pale yellow or light pinkish tint. Over time, exposure to UV light and oxidation causes the wood to darken, developing a sophisticated reddish-brown patina. Commercial steaming is frequently utilized to achieve a more uniform, intense color tone and to stabilize the material.

The texture is exceptionally fine and even, with a diffuse-porous structure where pores are nearly invisible to the naked eye. The grain is predominantly straight, though occasional slight waviness or «fiddleback» figure may occur, significantly increasing the decorative and commercial value of the boards.

Due to its high density and fine grain, Pear offers superior workability for machining, turning, and sanding. It is an ideal substrate for intricate artistic carving, as it maintains sharp, clean edges without crumbling.

The timber exhibits excellent receptivity to adhesives, stains, and high-quality finishes. A unique commercial feature of Pear is its suitability for ebonizing: when treated with specialized black stains, it becomes nearly indistinguishable from genuine African Ebony. While the wood has high abrasion resistance, it possesses low natural durability (susceptibility to decay and insects), meaning it is intended exclusively for high-end interior applications and climate-controlled environments.
