What is lightweight Ceiba plywood?
Lightweight Ceiba plywood is a layered material made of several sheets of rotary-cut veneer bonded with adhesive. The panels are manufactured from an exotic wood species — Ceiba. Widespread in the tropical latitudes of Africa, Asia, and the Americas, this hardwood is known for its low weight and good elasticity. To enhance sheet strength, the veneer layers are arranged with the grain of adjacent plies perpendicular to each other.
Key features of lightweight Ceiba plywood
This panel material stands out for qualities such as:
- Low weight. Dry Ceiba wood has a density of 350 kg/cu m. Compared to conventional birch plywood, an exotic Ceiba board is almost twice as light. The table below shows the density of wood species commonly used for plywood manufacturing.

- Wear resistance. Lightweight plywood easily handles the everyday wear and tear of residential spaces, as Ceiba wood boasts excellent mechanical properties. The panels are widely used for furniture making and interior finishing.
- Eco-friendliness. E1-rated plywood sheets are safe for human and animal health. Products crafted from lightweight Ceiba plywood are suitable for bedrooms, children’s rooms, home offices, libraries, living rooms, and dining rooms.
Another major advantage of lightweight plywood is its ease of processing. The surface can be painted, varnished, or tinted. The boards can be effortlessly styled for both contemporary and classic interiors.
What is made from lightweight Ceiba plywood
This panel material is used to manufacture lightweight and durable furniture and decor. Plywood sheets are used for:
Cabinet furniture
When large yet lightweight wardrobes, tall cabinets, nightstands, dressers, or hanging wall units are required, lightweight plywood is the material of choice. Easy to work with and wear-resistant, this structural material allows for crafting durable pieces of varying complexity and dimensions.
Architectural elements
Lightweight plywood is used to construct interior partitions that divide and zone spaces effectively. It is ideal for portable room dividers and privacy screens in public and commercial venues: open-space offices, conference rooms, libraries, and play areas. Furthermore, lightweight plywood sheets are used to create arches, staircase components, and cornices.
Wall panels
Lightweight wood panels are great for wall and ceiling cladding. Wall panels made of lightweight plywood improve sound and thermal insulation. Thanks to their easily customizable surface, plywood wall linings are popular for city apartments, country houses, hotel rooms, offices, cafés, and coworking spaces.
