Edge banding is a thin strip of various materials used to finish the edges of boards and components. We supply edging made from natural veneer. The facing strip is used in the manufacture of all kinds of interior and decorative items. Among the material’s main functions, joiners name the environmental one and the decorative one.

Natural veneer edging is a material that is harmless to health. Facing the edges of worktops and fronts seals in the emissions of particle board and fibreboard, making the finished items environmentally safe. Furniture with properly finished edges is used to fit out public and residential spaces, including children’s and play rooms. Neatly applied furniture edging helps give wardrobes, sideboards and tables a finished look.

Our warehouse in Kyiv carries more than 10 types of edging material. We offer edge banding in American walnut, alder, oak, ash, maple, beech, pine, cherry, birch, elm, sapele, anegre and makore veneer.

Veneer edge banding: what it is and what it does

Veneer edge banding is a decorative and functional facing strip. A strip cut from a thin slice of wood is used in fields such as furniture manufacture and interior fit-out. The main jobs the edging material helps with are:

  1. Environmental safety of the finished item. Edging for particle board, MDF and plywood is glued to the edges of worktops, fronts and other components, sealing in the toxic emissions of particle board or fibreboard. Furniture with properly finished edges is therefore harmless to people and animals. Veneered desks, shelving units, cabinets, chairs and armchairs are approved for fitting out both high-traffic public spaces and residential rooms, including bedrooms, children’s and play rooms.
  2. Protection of the edges. Veneer edging protects the edges of cabinet furniture from scuffing and soiling. Finished worktop and front edges reduce the chance of snagged clothing and scratches. Properly faced edges extend the service life and keep furnishings looking presentable.
  3. Decorative effect. Furniture edging is an effective helper that lets you create a finished, attractive piece.

This apparently minor construction detail affects both the appearance and the function of furniture and other furnishings. The right edge banding material and correct gluing technique make it possible to produce practical, reliable and attractive sets for the bedroom, living room, kitchen, office, restaurant or café.

Natural edge banding: sizes

The warehouse programme carries edging materials in the following sizes:

  • width: 22 mm and 44 mm;
  • thickness: 0.5 mm;
  • length: 200 lin. m, 150 lin. m, 100 lin. m and 50 lin. m.

We offer sanded edging on a fleece backing, pre-glued or unglued. These grades are hard-wearing enough for use in enclosed spaces. Edging for MDF, particle board and plywood is available in sliced veneer of:

  • oak;
  • American walnut;
  • alder;
  • ash;
  • beech;
  • elm;
  • birch;
  • cherry;
  • maple;
  • pine;
  • sapele;
  • anegre;
  • makore.

Natural edge banding in rolls is sold from 1 item. The price is quoted per 1 m² and depends on the number of running metres on the roll. For the cost of edging material on a trade order, ask our managers.

Made-to-order furniture edging

For some items, standard sizes do not fit. We help our customers realise design projects of every level of complexity, so we make veneer edging to order:

  • thickness: 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3 mm;
  • width: 60-270 mm.

Production takes 10 working days. The quantity supplied may vary within ±10%. Furniture edging can be made in a range of veneer species.

  3. Professional advice. Our specialists will help you choose the right edging tape by width, thickness, length and whether it is pre-glued. If you cannot come to the warehouse, our managers will send photographs, video and specifications of the suitable materials and place the order once it is agreed.
  4. A loyalty scheme. We prepare individual offers for trade customers. The discount depends on the size of the order.
  5. Delivery across Ukraine and collection. Furniture edging can be collected from the warehouse. Delivery across Ukraine by carrier companies is available.
  6. Convenient payment. The following payment methods are available: cash (with a till receipt) or bank transfer (sole trader or VAT-registered company).

Types of furniture edging

The warehouse carries edging sanded on the face side. Edging material serves several purposes and is glued to surfaces of varying width and profile. The following types of edging for particle board, plywood and MDF are available:

Unglued edging The veneer, or rather the veneer strip, has no pre-applied adhesive layer. Before applying the edging, the joiner can choose a suitable adhesive. Should any questions arise, our sales managers will help you find the adhesive that suits the job.
Pre-glued edging The back of fleece-backed furniture edging carries a hot-melt adhesive. The edging tape bonds under heat: an iron or a heat gun is needed to work with the material.
Self-adhesive furniture edging is a popular choice thanks to its ease of use and the reliability of the bond.
Fleece-backed veneer Fleece-backed furniture edging is made by splicing veneer with a zigzag joint. The back of the edging strip is reinforced with fleece. The backing gives a flexible, stable material that is less prone to cracking where it bends. Fleece-backed edging is used for facing profiled components, because its surface does not chip. It is also used to wrap mouldings (cornices, skirtings, corner beads and architraves).
We make fleece-backed veneer to order in thicknesses of 0.25-0.5 mm and widths up to 300 mm. The minimum batch is 10 m². Production takes up to 10 working days.

Veneer furniture edging: applications

As noted above, the main field of use for edging materials is the manufacture of furniture and interior items. Edging tape in natural wood is used to make:

  • furniture. Natural edging gives a finished look to cabinets, side and coffee tables, storage systems, shelving units and bar counters, and solves a range of construction problems. Properly finished edges let headboards, desks and shelves last considerably longer;
  • wall panels and panelling. Veneer in rolls is used in the manufacture of wall panels as well as decorative panelling and mouldings. Designers call this finish a worthy alternative to plaster or wallpaper. Panels and panelling with neat edges help create the right atmosphere in a study, bedroom, living room, library or dining room;
  • doors and door frames. Finishing the edges of a door leaf calls for particular care. The door and its frame are components that have to last a long time;
  • architectural features. In a well-considered interior everything serves one idea. Details such as the right edging tape help create a coherent space. Edging for particle board and MDF is used on archways, screens, stair handrails, window frames, cornices and skirtings;
  • decorative pieces. Natural edging preserves the figure and texture of the wood. The surface can be polished, tinted and finished with oils and lacquers. Because it is easy to finish, edging is used to make mirror and picture frames, figurines, candlesticks, baskets and other decorative items.

We know how important correctly chosen edging materials are. We offer joiners quality natural edging for worktops and other furniture components on favourable terms. We are ready for any job — get in touch!
