Solid Wood Panels: Buying Guide, Species, Grades & Specifications
We offer high-quality edge-glued furniture panels — a premium sheet material comprised of glued wooden staves (lamellas). Available stock includes edge-glued panels made of oak, ash, beech, alder, and pine. We supply both solid-stave and finger-jointed panels in these and other wood species. Available for purchase from 1 panel, with wholesale options also available. Self-collection and shipping across Ukraine are provided.
In terms of stability, strength, and wear resistance, edge-glued board outperforms solid timber. The panels are used in the production of worktops, shelves, shelving units, headboards, stools, stairs, cabinet furniture, internal partitions, platforms, and wall and ceiling cladding.
Key Advantages of Glued Panels:
- Dimensional Stability. Thanks to precision-glued joints, the panels are rigid and stable. Unlike wide solid planks, furniture boards retain their geometry and are less prone to warping or shrinking.
- Strength. Products made from these panels easily withstand the mechanical loads typical of residential and commercial environments. Surfaces can be lacquered or oiled for enhanced protection against scratches and abrasions.
- Aesthetics. The material suits both classic and contemporary interiors. Finger-jointed panels feature a “patchwork” structure with varying tones and textures. Full-stave panels offer a more uniform appearance with continuous grain, closely resembling solid wood.
Please contact our manager to receive specifications for the material currently in stock.

Furniture Board: What Is It?
An edge-glued panel (solid wood panel) is a sheet material made of wooden staves (lamellas) that are precisely sized and glued together. The width of these staves can vary: typically, segments 20–30 mm wide are used, but panels with staves 40–50 mm wide are also common. Made entirely of natural wood, these panels preserve the texture of solid timber, making them highly popular for producing interior elements. However, aesthetic appeal is not their only advantage. Unlike solid timber, edge-glued panels are dimensionally stable, more rigid, and not prone to warping or cracking. What gives edge-glued panels these qualities?
- Relief of Internal Stress. The larger the surface area, the higher the internal stress caused by uneven drying and the natural structure of the wood. This internal tension can cause solid timber and products made from it to warp or split. Sawing the wood into staves relieves most of this internal stress. Once glued together, the segments form a stable, durable structure.
- Alternating Grain Direction. In solid timber, the wood grain runs in a single direction. When humidity changes, the wood can deform along or across the grain. In an edge-glued panel, the staves are arranged so that the grain direction alternates between adjacent segments. This alternating pattern significantly reduces the risk of panel deformation.
- Uniform Drying of Raw Material. Staves are made from dry lumber with a moisture content of about 8–10%. Kiln drying ensures that the wood is uniformly and thoroughly dried.
- Quality Control of Staves. The staves are sorted by quality, length, and width. Segments with cracks, large knots, or resin pockets are rejected. This meticulous sorting results in a homogeneous, high-quality material. With solid wood, by contrast, defects can run through the entire log.
- Gluing. Utilizing the right adhesive creates an exceptionally strong bond.
These glued joints add extra rigidity to the entire panel. Edge-glued panels are stable, easy to work with, eco-friendly (made of natural wood and safe glue, making them fully recyclable), and highly aesthetic, perfectly capturing the texture and color palette of natural timber. This unique combination of properties makes the material highly sought after by our clients.
Varieties of Edge-Glued Panels
The joinery market offers edge-glued panels (furniture boards) distinguished by:
Manufacturing technology:
- Finger-Jointed. Consists of short wooden lamellas arranged in a staggered pattern and glued both lengthwise and widthwise. The segments are joined using finger joints (micro-tenons). The surface features a characteristic «patchwork» or block-pattern appearance.
- Full Stave (Solid Stave). Manufactured from lamellas that run the full length of the panel. The board length corresponds to the length of the individual staves. Staves are glued only edge-to-edge (widthwise), creating a more uniform and natural wood surface.
- Raw Material Type. Produced from both softwood and hardwood species. Pine is the standard cost-effective option, while Oak, Ash, Beech, Alder, Larch, Birch, Linden (Lime), Bamboo, and Teak are available for premium applications.
- Application Area. Classified by moisture resistance as MR (Moisture Resistant for interior use) or BWP (Boiling Water Proof for exterior/weatherproof applications).
- Grading. Extra Grade: Staves are perfectly matched by grain pattern and color; the surface is uniform and completely free of knots. Grade 1 (A): Minor tonal variations are permitted; technical characteristics are comparable to Extra grade. Grade 2 (B): Variations in shades and wood texture are allowed; the surface remains free of cracks. Grade 3 (C): Significant color variation, sapwood, healthy knots, and minor surface cracks are permitted. These panels are often painted or veneered to conceal natural defects.

Application areas of solid wood panels
What can be manufactured from wooden edge-glued panels? The panels are easy to work with: they can be sawn, sanded, polished, stained, and varnished effortlessly. The material is used to create products such as:
- Worktops. Furniture boards are an excellent choice for worktops. Designers and craftsmen consider edge-glued panels the optimal solution for work surfaces due to their functional and decorative qualities. Stave-constructed boards are rigid, stable, and durable. While wood patterns vary by species, solid wood harmoniously fits various interior styles: loft, retro, minimalism, art, eclectic, and industrial. A furniture board worktop for desks or dining tables lasts for decades. The boards are also used to manufacture retail counters, bar tops, kitchen islands, and reception desks for hotels and offices.
- Storage systems. Edge-glued panels are used to create long shelves capable of withstanding significant loads. Boards are utilized in the production of bookcases, floor and wall shelving units (both open and closed types), drawers, and wardrobe storage systems.
- Staircase components. Stair treads made of furniture boards are a standard industry solution. Due to the higher number of glue joints and increased structural rigidity, craftsmen frequently choose finger-jointed panels for stairs. Glued timber withstands the operational loads of both residential and public spaces. Wooden staircases remain a hallmark of country houses, chalets, townhouses, and hotel suites.
- Partitions. Using non-load-bearing timber structures, it is possible to modify the layout of rooms of various sizes. Internal walls, partitions, dividing screens, and mobile room dividers allow for the creation of functional zones in apartments, houses, offices, retail spaces, and cafes.
- Wall and ceiling panels. Cladding walls and ceilings with solid wood is an effective way to reduce noise levels and improve the microclimate. The boards are also used as interior feature panels. Finger-jointed boards are chosen by those who appreciate a diverse wood texture, while full-stave (solid stave) panels are preferred for refined, minimalist designs.
Furthermore, these boards are used to manufacture bed headboards, seats for stools, benches, and ottomans, cabinet furniture elements, podiums, stands, organizers, and various home decor items.
