Performance of MDF panels
Environmental safety, ease of machining and strength are named as the main properties of MDF panels. The material, used widely in carcase furniture, is made from wood chips, as particle board is. The way the raw material is processed and the pressing technology differ, however, which yields a board with better performance in use. Our online shop stocks oak veneered MDF sheets. Natural wood improves both the durability and the appearance of fibreboard.
Furniture makers choose fibreboard sheets for a number of reasons, among them:
| Resistance to loads in use | The strength of the sheet is one reason given for buying MDF board. Properly finished, the material suits furnishings for public and residential premises. The panels tolerate minor changes in humidity and temperature. |
|---|---|
| Ease of machining | Because the wood is ground almost to a uniform state, no voids or gaps remain between the fibres after pressing. Sawn edges stay clean, which makes it possible to produce curved parts and elements of complex shape. Given these properties, buying MDF for furniture making is a sound decision. |
| Environmental safety | The catalogue holds class E1 sheets. The marking indicates that the composite contains a safe amount of formaldehyde. A thin slice of natural wood further improves the environmental credentials of the boards. Oak veneered MDF boards, which can be bought anywhere in Ukraine through our online shop, are used in children’s rooms, bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms and offices. |
How oak veneered MDF is made
The raw material for MDF is timber-processing waste and trees scheduled for felling. The production stages run as follows:
- The wood dust is ground down thoroughly.
- The wood material is treated with steam at high pressure.
- The resulting mass is refined in a defibrator.
- Bonding resins and paraffin are added to the refined, dried material.
- After hot-air drying the mixture goes into a hopper, where it is compacted.
- The material is levelled on the conveyor, pressed and heated. Under high temperature the blank partly fuses, gaining density and strength. After a set interval the pressure is reduced and the thickness of the panel is adjusted.
- The sheets cool, are sanded and are cut to the required size.
- Oak veneer is bonded to the finished MDF panels.
Oak veneer: what to know
Dense, hard timber resists scuffing and scratching and takes considerable mechanical load. Oak veneered MDF sheets are used for fronts of wardrobes, base units and tall units in the bedroom, living room and kitchen. The material also suits doors, screens, partitions, and wall and ceiling panels.
Oak veneer has a textured figure with clear lines. Knotty oak is particularly interesting. Unfinished sheets are most often in light tones: milky, grey, pale beige. The material takes further decorative finishing readily. Stains and lacquers bring out the beauty of the natural figure and make it more expressive and contrasting.
Our company offers oak veneered MDF panels priced by size. Sheets are available 2.44 m and 2.8 m long, 1.033 m, 1.2 m and 2.07 m wide, and 4 mm, 6 mm, 9 mm, 10 mm, 11 mm, 17 mm, 19 mm and 26 mm thick. Ask our managers about stock, payment methods and delivery.
