Blockboards: What They Are and Structural Features

A blockboard is a high-quality panel material widely used in the furniture industry and for comprehensive interior decoration. The structure of this material is meticulously designed, ensuring exceptional stability, strength, and durability. The core of the blockboard consists of wooden strips or battens glued together. Most often, pine wood is used to form a strong base. During production, the wood is cut into 25 mm wide strips. The timber is securely joined using a special water-resistant adhesive, strictly applying high-pressure technology.

To ensure perfect geometry and prevent any deformation, the core is covered with a stabilizing layer. On both sides, lamellas—peeled birch or alder veneer—are glued. The final facing depends on the specific product family and can be made of sliced veneer from precious wood species, peeled ceiba veneer, or HDF. During manufacturing, the material undergoes a thorough drying stage that reduces the moisture level. Moisture content: 10–12%. This is the optimal technological indicator for further safe processing and long-term use.

An important technical characteristic is the material’s moisture resistance, which fully complies with the strict parameters of the PN-76/D-97000 standard. In addition, the products are environmentally safe, as the formaldehyde emission class is E1. Thanks to this multi-layered structure, a blockboard is significantly lighter than a solid wood panel of the same thickness. It is not prone to cracking or warping and has excellent thermal and sound insulation properties.

It is important to clearly understand the difference between a blockboard and an edge-glued panel. A blockboard has a core made of affordable wood species, complemented by a stabilizing layer and final facing. This makes it much lighter, more affordable, and highly stable under temperature fluctuations. In contrast, an edge-glued panel consists of solid glued lamellas without any additional facing.

Types of Blockboards: How to Choose the Optimal Material

The full thickness range is from 13 to 39 mm, specifically including 13, 14, 18, 19, 38, and 39 mm options. Veneered Blockboards

This variety features a final facing of sliced veneer from precious wood species. Both sides of the board are veneered. Our catalog presents the most popular species: oak, white ash, and American walnut. The material features a Grade I-II face veneer. This is a combined grade where the front side has better visual characteristics, while the reverse side allows for more natural wood features. The surface of such boards is completely ready for finishing—tinting, varnishing, or oil-waxing. The material can also be used without additional finishing, preserving the natural beauty of the texture.

• Thickness: 14 mm. Formats: 2500×1250 mm (sheet area 3.125 m²) and 2800×2070 mm (sheet area 5.796 m²). Available species: oak, white ash, American walnut.
• Thickness: 19 mm. Formats: 2500×1250 mm (sheet area 3.125 m²) and 2800×2070 mm (sheet area 5.796 m²). Available species: oak, white ash, American walnut.
• Thickness: 39 mm. Format: 2100×900 mm (sheet area 1.89 m²). Available species: oak, white ash. This is a reinforced board designed specifically for load-bearing structural elements.

Veneered blockboards are ideal for projects where a visible natural texture under a transparent finish is essential.

Ceiba(fromager)-Faced Blockboards

This family of boards is faced with peeled ceiba veneer (also known as fromager or Ceiba/fromager) on both sides. Ceiba is a light, uniform, and extremely lightweight tropical wood. It creates a perfectly smooth, matte surface. Lightness is one of the key advantages of this material, ensuring lower weight of finished structures and convenient, fast installation.

The surface of ceiba-faced boards is highly suitable for further processing: it can be easily painted, varnished, veneered, and laminated. It is a versatile light base for any finish or a ready-to-use finishing material for interior work. The light texture of ceiba allows the material to be easily tinted in any shade. The assortment includes the following parameters:

HDF-Faced Blockboards

For projects requiring maximum stability and a perfectly flat surface, we offer boards faced with HDF (High-Density Fiberboard) on both sides. The surface of such material is smooth, dense, without any knots or texture variations. The geometric stability of these boards is the highest due to the symmetrical facing with a dense material.

This is an ideal ready-made base for painting, enameling, film application, veneering, or laminating. Thanks to the high density of HDF, these boards do not absorb excessive amounts of paint and varnish materials, making the finishing process more economical. The following sizes are available:
