**47,99 € / m² (47,99 € / m²)**

Grade 1 (A) solid-stave oak edge-glued panels with a thickness of 16 mm and dimensions of 0.98–1.28 m x 0.65 m are produced from full-length staves, which perfectly preserves the continuous natural grain pattern of the timber. The material is widely used for the production of furniture facades, shelves, stairs, and decorative wall panels. Due to the solid-stave structure of the board, the finished products feature a virtually uniform wood surface. Warehouse self-pickup or shipping across Ukraine via domestic carriers is available.

## Advantages of Solid-Lamella Oak Edge-Glued Panels

Solid-lamella edge-glued panels (EGP) are a premium variety of timber boards manufactured by bonding lamellas (staves) exclusively along their width. Unlike finger-jointed panels, each lamella in such a panel is continuous and runs through the entire length of the board.

1. Aesthetic qualities. The primary feature of solid-lamella panels is their visual appeal. Since the lamellas are uninterrupted along their length, the material conveys the natural grain pattern as accurately as possible. When selecting segments for solid-lamella panels, rigorous attention is paid to colour grading to ensure seamless tonal transitions and a sophisticated appearance.
2. Finish quality. Due to the absence of transverse glue joints (finger joints), the surface appears monolithic after coating, lacquering, or oiling. This ensures a high-end finish that is particularly valued in premium furniture manufacturing and interior design.
3. Durability and repairability. The thickness and structural uniformity of the lamellas allow the product to be sanded and refinished multiple times over decades. This maintenance can be performed without the risk of exposing internal joints or compromising the integrity of the board, ensuring long-term durability.

Solid-stave oak edge-glued panels allow for the creation of products that retain an attractive visual appearance and functionality over an extended service life. This edge-glued board material is chosen for projects where natural wood aesthetics, durability, and refinishing capability are essential.

## Grades of Oak Edge-Glued Panels

The grade of an edge-glued panel determines the visual appearance of the material, not its structural strength or stability. The classification is based on permissible natural wood characteristics and the quality of the stave bonding. The difference between grades is purely aesthetic and relates to the intended application.

| I (A) | The surface is virtually uniform in texture and colour. Occasional small "pin knots" are permitted. No sapwood or other defects are allowed. Typically used in the furniture industry for premium-class sets. |
| --- | --- |
| II (B) | Small healthy intergrown knots are permitted. Moderate variations in tone and a more active wood grain are possible. Suitable for cabinetry, shelving, and high-quality worktops. |
| III (C) | Contains various types of knots, sapwood, and high-contrast texture. These panels are usually painted, laminated, or used for designer products in rustic, eco, country, or loft styles. |

## What is Manufactured from Edge-Glued Panels?

### Work surfaces and tabletops

This is the primary application for the material. The stable structure of the panel allows for the manufacture of durable furniture, specifically dining, writing, and coffee table tops. The edge-glued structure is the optimal choice for **kitchen worktops**, where resistance to daily mechanical loads is critical. Panels are also widely used for bar counters, kitchen islands, reception desks, and retail shopfitting.

### Stair components

The edge-glued panel is the ideal material for structures subject to constant mechanical impact. It is used to create **treads, landings, and handrails**: glued timber withstands static and dynamic loads significantly better than solid wood.

### Windowsills

Using panels for windowsills is a popular solution for residential apartments, office centres, and conference halls. Unlike a solid board, a panel windowsill does not deform under the influence of warm air from radiators or moisture from window glazing. Windowsill surfaces are typically finished with protective high-wear coatings.

### Cabinetry and storage systems

This structural material is used to create durable storage systems. Shelves and racking units made from edge-glued panels can support the significant weight of books, decor, or kitchenware. Panels are also utilised for manufacturing wardrobe doors, chests of drawers, cabinets, and high-load units.

### Chairs, benches, and interior decor

The strength of the **adhesive bond** allows for the creation of reliable hallway benches, stools, and bar chairs. Timber stave panels can also be used as interior wall cladding, decorative screens, or partitions for functional space zoning.

## Manufacturing Stages of Edge-Glued Panels

1. Raw Material Selection. Only premium kiln-dried boards are selected for production. Timber with a moisture content (MC) of 8-10% provides the essential foundation for a stable, high-quality panel.
2. Ripping and Cross-Cutting. The timber is ripped into blanks — lamellas of a specific width. These strips are then meticulously sorted. Segments containing knots, cracks, wormholes, or other structural defects are either rejected or sent for defecting (removal of imperfections). Selected lamellas are then planed (S4S) on all four sides. For finger-jointed (FJ) panels, a professional-grade finger-joint profile is milled onto the ends of short staves before they are joined longitudinally under high pressure.
3. Panel Assembly. Lamellas are laid out according to a precise technical pattern: the growth ring direction in adjacent segments must alternate to counteract natural warping. During this stage, strips are matched by colour and grain texture for visual consistency.
4. Gluing. Lamellas are joined using D3 or D4 class adhesives (according to EN 204 standards), which are applied evenly to the edges. The assembled panel is then processed in a high-pressure hydraulic press.
5. Calibration and Sanding. Once the curing process is complete, the panels undergo calibration to ensure precise thickness and are sanded to a smooth finish. The resulting material is fully prepared for further finishing, such as lacquering, staining, or oil treatment.

## Why is Oak Edge-Glued Panel More Stable than Solid Timber?

The primary issue with solid timber is its hygroscopicity. Solid wood naturally absorbs and releases moisture, which often leads to deformation, cupping, and cracking. An edge-glued panel (EGP) resolves this issue through three key factors:

1. Internal stress compensation. In a solid board, the fibres are oriented in a single direction. If the board begins to "pull" during the drying process, the entire piece deforms. In an edge-glued panel, the staves (lamellas) are selected so that their growth ring directions are alternating. The internal energy of one stave is neutralised by the resistance of the adjacent one.
2. Absence of critical fracture points. Cracks in wood typically propagate along the fibres. Since the panel consists of individual segments, a micro-crack appearing in one stave cannot physically transfer to another. The glue line acts as a structural barrier.
3. Uniform response to humidity changes. Because an edge-glued panel consists of narrow staves, each element reacts to humidity fluctuations more quickly and predictably. This reduces internal stresses within the material and minimises the risk of warping.

Oak edge-glued panel is more stable than solid timber because its construction compensates for the wood’s natural hygroscopicity. The multi-directional grain of the staves counteracts internal stresses, glue lines block the spread of cracks, and narrow elements respond more uniformly to moisture fluctuations. As a result, the panel deforms less and maintains its dimensional stability significantly longer than a solid board.

## Oak Timber: Key Characteristics

Solid oak is considered the benchmark material in woodworking due to its unique combination of physical and mechanical properties and high aesthetic value.

- Oak (Quercus) belongs to the heavy and hard species (3.7 on the Brinell scale) with a high density, typically around 700–750 kg/m³ at standard moisture content (10–12%).
- The texture is distinguished by prominent pores and a characteristic pattern featuring medullary rays. The colour palette ranges from light sand and yellowish-brown to deep brown shades. The wood naturally darkens over time.
- A key technical feature of oak is its high content of tannins, which increase the wood’s natural resistance to decay, fungi, and moisture.
- During processing, oak demonstrates an excellent ability to be steam-bent, holds fixings (screws and nails) exceptionally well, and responds well to sanding. Due to its significant hardness, high-quality carbide-tipped tools are required for cutting. The hardness of oak allows craftsmen to perform complex artistic milling and deep brushing, which emphasises the relief structure of the fibres.

Oak interacts well with various types of finishes: oils and waxes deeply penetrate the pores, while varnishes create a durable protective film. A specific treatment method is fuming (staining), where tannins react with chemical compounds, colouring the wood dark or black while preserving the natural grain pattern.
