## Maple Sawn Veneer Grades

For facing materials, the grade indicates aesthetic characteristics rather than technical quality. Since lamella is used as a face layer, its classification is based on visual parameters: the presence of knots, sapwood, medullary rays, and colour uniformity.

All grades in our range undergo the same kiln-drying cycle to a moisture content (MC) of 8–10% and precision thickness sanding. The choice of grade depends solely on the intended style of the finished product.

### Parquet Board

Hardwood sawn veneer is used as the wear layer of flooring. The Maple wear layer withstands the operational loads of residential spaces and, with proper treatment and maintenance, provides long-lasting service. Engineered and parquet boards are aesthetic, practical, and wear-resistant materials that suit dozens of interior styles.

### Staircase Elements and Treads

- **Calibration.** Before sawing, the boards are calibrated to dimensions that match the parameters of the saw frame. This approach ensures high precision in subsequent processing and optimal material yield.
- **Sawing.** Prepared blanks are fed into a Wintersteiger machine. After setting the thickness and other parameters, the timber is resawn into sheets. The use of high-precision equipment guarantees consistent saw-cut quality.
- **Quality control (QC) and grading.** The finished sawn veneer is inspected for compliance with dimensions, thickness, and grade. After grading, the lamellas are grouped into bundles, which are then packed onto pallets for transport.

## Maple Timber: Characteristics

Maple (Acer) is a light-colored hardwood highly sought after in furniture manufacturing. Due to its high density, shock resistance, and excellent finishing properties, maple is considered a benchmark material for producing durable work surfaces and decorative elements. The Acer genus includes over 150 species distributed throughout the temperate zones of the Northern Hemisphere. In Ukraine, Norway Maple (Acer platanoides) and Sycamore Maple (Acer pseudoplatanus) are of primary industrial importance.

The mechanical properties of the solid wood depend on the specific species, yet general indicators place this lumber on par with oak in terms of strength. Density typically ranges between 620–720 kg/m³. On the Brinell scale, its hardness rating is 3.9. Maple demonstrates high abrasion resistance, making it an ideal material for high-traffic flooring and staircases. Due to its superior shock resistance, the wood is a primary material for manufacturing sports equipment (such as bowling pins and baseball bats) and high-end musical instruments.

Maple is distinguished by its uniform light color, ranging from creamy white to pale yellowish hues. Unlike many other hardwoods, the sapwood and heartwood are often visually indistinguishable, which is a valued trait for clear finishes. The texture is fine and even, with a subtle grain pattern. Annual rings are visible but not prominent. A characteristic pearlescent or silky luster is observed on radial sections (quarter-sawn surfaces). Occasionally, highly prized figured grains, such as «bird’s eye maple», occur naturally.

Due to its high density and sugar content, the lumber is prone to friction burning during milling or drilling at high tool speeds. However, maple sands to an exceptionally smooth, mirror-like surface. Staining can occasionally result in blotchiness due to the irregular absorption capacity of the fibers. To achieve a uniform finish, it is recommended to use pre-stain wood conditioners or apply toning lacquers via professional spray systems.
